Why Do People Fall In Love?
Why do people fall in love? This question is easy to understand yet difficult to answer.
If you have experienced developing feelings for someone even though you intended not to, you can’t help but ask yourself, “Why do people fall in love?” Falling in love is certainly a magical experience that happens to two people. A professor from State University of New York at Stonybrook named Arthur Aron has been investigating the dynamics of how two people fall in love.
When it comes to love, the question does not simply end in “Why do people fall in love?” You also have to ask yourself, “Why do I need to find love?” It is a reality that as human beings, we are motivated to expand ourselves, as well as enhance our capabilities and effectiveness. One way to accomplish this is by building relationships with other people. Aron’s research explains that it is important for you to feel that you can be an effective individual especially in relationships.
Aron adds that self-expansion plays a role in the process of falling in love. More often than not, we fall in love with those we find attractive and suitable for us. We want those who demonstrate that they are attracted to us. This just creates a situation for self-expansion. The fact that certain people are attracted to us and we are able to distinguish this, we feel a surge of excitement. On the other hand, if a person feels badly about himself, he misses out on opportunities to fall in love because he finds it hard to believe that somebody finds him attractive.
Are there specific conditions that are considered best to meet someone and fall in love? Aron explains that when you meet somebody under highly arousing conditions such as turbulence on a plane, political demonstration or other times when the body is excited and stirred up, people tend to experience attraction at a heightened level. This effect has been well documented but the explanations are rather controversial. Aron believes that the arousal of the situation in the presence of another person and self-expansion are associated.
When do we fall in love and is appearance a factor? In Aron’s studies, the statistic demonstrate that most people fall in love with those that they have known for quite some time. Only about 40% of the time do they fall in love quickly. The results reveal that being attractive isn’t much of a factor because the attributes that people learn about people are kindness and intelligence. Intelligence is vital in all aspects of life including love. However, kindness may be the strongest sign for a successful long-term relationship.
Why do people fall in love? Despite all these information gathered, falling in love may still be subjective.
