Why Do People Skip Breakfast?

healthy foodsOne of the most common questions doctors get on a regular basis is, is breakfast the most important meal of the day?The answer is, quite simply, yes. We think breakfast is the most important meal of the day. In this article, we’re going to share with you how sometimes skipping breakfast can actually be good for you and if you are eating breakfast, as being the most important meal of the day, what exactly does that meal consist of to make it the healthiest overall meal of the day? We will also be discussing some of the super foods.

Why is breakfast important?

So to start here, breakfast being the most important meal of the day, why exactly is breakfast so critical? Let’s say you ate last time somewhere around seven or eight o’clock in the evening, you are then waking up 12 hours later, after an entire half day, and your body needs fuel.

It needs fuel to start to repair and to heal, and to create energy throughout the day. So, your body needs to feed off of something. So again, for that reason breakfast is really the most important meal of the day. That is because it really gets your entire day started and your body needs those nutrients.

Now, when you’re creating this super healthy meal for breakfast, what we would recommend you do, is do a super food smoothie. Of course, as you will know, there are other options. You can do a healthy omelette, for example with goat cheese and veggies. You can do sprouted oatmeal, or some other things but what we believe to be one of the healthiest options is going to be a super food smoothie.

Here’s what you’ll need to make to make a super food smoothie.

  • First of all, you are going to need some coconut milk or some sort of liquid base. Coconut milk, almond milk, kefir or coconut water, those are the three that are used most often. So you need those healthy fats in something like coconut milk.
  • The next thing you need is a good quality source of protein. We would typically recommend eggs, whey protein powder, like a grass fed whey, beef protein, or collagen powder. Most people would typically use a grass-fed whey or a collagen powder and that’s what, we put as my protein in my smoothie.

So, we’ve got healthy fat in typically your coconut milk. We’ve got the healthy protein in your protein powder and then you want to add in fibre.

  • chia seedsTo add fibre, you want to do that by doing something like a chia seed or a black seed. So we normally have a bag of chia and so chia seeds, especially sprouted chia, or sprouted fibre, is a great thing to get in your super food smoothie for breakfast.
  • Then the next thing you’ll need to add are antioxidants, these are critical for recovery and to slow the aging process. So, you should add in one cup of berries as well.

So again, you want healthy fat, healthy protein, fibre, as well as antioxidants in that smoothie for breakfast. And then obviously, vitamins and minerals. You’re getting lots of vitamins and minerals from what we’ve just described. And if you want to take your super food smoothie to a whole other level, and really make breakfast the healthiest meal of the day, you can sneak in a hand full of spinach or kale. We promise you won’t even taste it. Or add in a scoop of green super food powder, but by adding anything like that, it will make it the healthiest meal of the day.

Intermittent fasting

Now, there’s actually a trend out there today called intermittent fasting where you skip breakfast. Sometimes doctors and healthcare professionals get questions such as, is that healthy? The answer is yes, it can be healthy. It is probably not healthy to do every day all of the time for some people, but it is possible that, for a period of time, skipping breakfast can actually be good for you.

Intermittent fasting allows your body to rest and recover. This is the same reason why fasting is healthy, and people have done fasting, whether it be water fast, or denial fast, or vegetable juice fast over the years, as it really lets the body heal and recover. So, again, even though breakfast is the healthiest meal of the day, fasting, like
